Outdoor Activities

a.k.a. please don't hurt yourself on your days off...

Hiking Trails at New River Gorge

Endless Wall - Endless Wall Trail is a 2.3 mile heavily trafficked point-to-point trail that features a river and is good for all skill levels. There is a .5 mile hike along the road back to parking area.
Long Point - Long Point Trail is a 3 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail that is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and mountain biking and is best used from April until November. The trail ends at Long Point view, where you can see beautiful views of the gorge, the river, and the bridge.

Rock Climbing (Sport, Trad, & Bouldering)

Need some beta? Pick up a local guidebook or stay a night or two at the AAC campground to chat with other climbers!
New River Gorge - Many routes are set on either side of the gorge. Check out Kaymoor on the Fayetteville side and Bridge Buttress on the park side. Bonus: our crews helped build the steps and climbing platform at Bridge Buttress!
  • Climbing in The New River Gorge - Mountain Project
  • Climbing at New River Gorge - National Park Service
Summersville Lake - Routes from easy to 5.15, all with the opportunity to jump in the lake and cool off. Popular during the warmer months. Access includes ladders, so not ideal for pups.

Paddling, Rafting, and more

  • The New River and Gauley River have world-class whitewater right in our backyard. Kayaking and rafting trips are available through several companies, as well as boat rentals.
  • If you want to keep things a little more chill, try some flatwater kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding at Summersville Lake - the local guiding companies offer these options as well, or you can rent a boat or board.
  • If you've got your own gear, do some research before you go. In general, the Gauley is a little tougher than the New, and you can really have some fun when they release the water from Summersville Dam (September/October each year).
